How Important Keywords Are

By Jimmy Torres

Both your keyword density and positioning play significant factors when it comes to optimizing your articles for MSN, Yahoo, and Google. A special technology that indexes your article in the search engines known as 'spiders', crawl over your article in a fashion that makes it critical to post your keywords in certain areas of the article, so that if someone does a search on your keyword, your article will come up in the search results.

So what is a keyword?

A keyword is a significant word that you post in your article multiple times. When a spider crawls your article, it recognizes that your article contains your specific word a number of times, which then assumes that your article will be useful to people searching for that keyword.

Over optimizing your article

Overloading your article with your keyword is known as 'keyword stuffing'. Keep in mind that if you do this to try and manipulate the search engines to get a high ranking for your keyword, then you won't get far. The spiders have the ability to read what is and what isn't keyword stuffing. If you practice this method, you will risk your articles being removed from the search engines forever.

Keyword Density

Keyword density means the number of times that your keyword is placed within your article. The majority of people use a percentage to tell how many times they will insert their keyword in their article. For instance, if the article you wrote was 600 words and you wanted to achieve a 3% keyword density, then you'll need to put the keyword in your article 18 times. You'll find dozens of resources suggesting a percentage over another and the reasons behind the logic, but in the end you will have to decide which density works best for you.

The Percentage of Density

No matter what density percentage you pick, remember that it's vital to place your keywords in the beginning as much as the end of your article so that you can create an hour glass effect. Just keep in mind that having the right keyword density in your article will most likely result in that article making you money because it will be placed high in the search engine results and attract more interested readers.

If you utilize the methods that I have mentioned above, then you should see your articles gaining top search engine placements. Finally, remember to submit your articles to multiple directories so that you can dominate search engine rankings.
